Hello Doctor. Haiju!
I hope you’re having a good morning, I wanted to ask if acai bowls are healthy. Since they contain fruits, but what about the amount of sugar that they contain? Is there something such as healthy sugar? are acai bowls a good option for breakfast especially on a sugar-free diet?
Thank you, please do get back to me.
Unfortunately acai bowls are high in sugar. For the endocrine system, sugar is sugar whether it comes from “natural” sources such as acai bowls or from other sources such as soda. So high sugar foods should be cautiously used.
Hi Doctor,
I just wanted to double check with you about this please. After breaking my fasting and have my dinner at around 8 pm.. how many hours do I have to wait till I take my 50mg thyroid pill? 2 hours enough? Or 3hours?
During the 2 or 3 hours waiting.. can I have coffee or tea or the stomach has to be empty before the medication?
Thanks in advance,
Hi Ayesha,
It takes around 3 hours for your stomach to be empty again after having a meal. So it would be best to take your thyroid pill then, and afterward wait for at least 1 hour before you eat again. The only liquid you can have 3 hours before or 1 hour after taking the thyroid pill is water. Tea and coffee may affect the absorption of the thyroid tablet.
Dr. Haiju
Doctor, do you give me one plate that I use daily for the diet.
Please answer me in email.
Thank you.

Dear Mr. Saleh,
In the past, when I gave a specific diet plan with particular food, patients would say that they don’t like that food. So I give the following broad suggestion: half your plate should be vegetables, any vegetable except potatoes, any recipe. About 20% of your plate should be carbs like rice or bread products. The rest of the plate should be white protein such as fish, chicken, egg whites, lentils etc.
